HURRICANE SANDY DEBRIS TASK FORCE RECEIVES U.N. GREEN STAR AWARD
The New York City Hurricane Sandy Debris Removal Task Force was awarded the United Nations Green Star Award in September 2013 for their outstanding response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy in October 2012. The Task Force comprised over 25 City, State, and Federal agencies and focused on reusing and recycling much of the 2 million cubic yards of debris left behind by Hurricane Sandy in New York City. The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), in partnership with 24 other federal, state, and local agencies including Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the State of New York, and the City of New York, was an integral part of the Debris Removal Task Force. M&C Venture Group, LLC served as a First Tier Subcontractor providing remote site operations, debris removal, selective demolition, sand sifting and administrative services to the USACE prime contract holder Environmental Chemical Corporation (ECC) at multiple locations in response to the devastation that was caused in the New York City area by Hurricane Sandy.
The Green Star Awards recognize individuals, organizations, governments, and corporations who make remarkable efforts to prevent, prepare for, and respond to environmental emergencies around the world. The awards are a joint initiative between the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Green Cross International and the United Nations Environment Programme.
